Cleaning up the garden

May 25, 2008 · 3 Comments

Today was so lovely we just had to be outside. So after a busy day yesterday at the Beaveree it was washing and mowing day.

After daddy had mowed the lawn Callum got a rare treat - a ride on the lawn tractor. Steven sat him on his lap but the rest was down to Callum. Before I hear gasps of how dangerous, - the deck was up and the blade was off.

Then when all the cleaning was done imagine our surprise to find this little fellow under our decking shaking like jelly…

After the kids had poked and stroked it and Orson tried to stomp on it, we thought it best to move him to a safe neutral zone….. irony being that the cat promptly pounced on it after watching where we put it. This time I decided to give the thing a sporting chance and took the cat inside.

Farming for now has unfortunately become a weekend job. However we are looking into Grass Seed suppliers ready for an August seeding.

Where’s the Water?

May 13, 2008 · 5 Comments

Ok so this Sunday started really well. Its Mother’s Day here so I had a lovely home made card from Callum and lots of kid hugs. We then decided to tackle the deer fencing.

All the fencing was unwrapped and stakes placed into position.

And then after a couple of hits with the sledge hammer it suddenly dawned on us - where was the water? And more importantly where was the electricity pipe!!

We racked our brains but all that we could both remember was the previous owner vaguely pointing in a direction that led from the house, down the fields and ending near the well.

Surfice to say that fencing has since ceased until we can get in contact with the previous owner and discover who the contractor was…..

Good Morning Coyote

May 10, 2008 · 1 Comment

This is a typical “where is my camera” story.

At just gone 7 am this morning I glanced out from the bathroom window and saw to my surprise a young coyote happily strolling through the our corn stubble. He did not care that the dogs were barking at him but was more intent on playing catch with the birds - who were clearly mocking him.

It was such a joyous and enriching experience. He was there for that long that I had time to wake the household to witness the event.

Our young coyote looked in fantastic condition, nice and lean but with good muscles, great back on him, not down in the hips or mange ridden.

His ears were pricked and every so often he would bound and jump in the air and then all of a sudden stop and sniff the air.

Our experience lasted a near 10 mins and ended with the coyote lightly jogging across our field and into the neighbouring farm land.

Next time I will have the camera at the ready.

Salmon Point

May 9, 2008 · 3 Comments

In lieu of this Sunday when we finally get around to putting up the deer fence, I thought I would share with you the interesting day I had.

It all began with a phone call I made to PECCS (in relation to an article I read), this in turn led to them asking if I was still supply staff for a local day care. Long story short a home visit occured whereby I have been granted Licenced Home Day Care Status if I so choose it. To run a home school and have a licence is something I have thought about since discovering the Steiner school in Devon UK. It will need some planning and careful thought but the chance is not one too miss.

The home school philosophy ties in well with the long term plans concerning the estate as well - Tourist and Visitor Information and Development Centre.

To think things through we took the children on a drive to Salmon point which over looks Lake Ontario. There was a beautiful sunset and I decided to share it with yourselves.

Country road to the look out area at Salmon Point:

And of course the perfect way to end an evening:

Hurray we found the dvd

May 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

Well I cannot believe it after weeks of searching and my husband thinking he was crazy the dvd turned up.

Admittedly it was in a strange place - next to the mitre saw………. however the important thing is, that it is here, and that means we can put the deer fencing up.

So I reckon that tomorrow is going to be put aside for Benner Deer Fencing.

Thought you would all enjoy this picture. Steven took it on the fields - not sure who was more shocked him or the deer.

Just Another Day

May 1, 2008 · No Comments

Nothing much has happened over the last few days and it seems like calmness has descended over the farm. Most of the corn has now been removed and hopefully the land will soon be ready for seeding. Steven mowed the lawn and the grounds are now looking half decent.

As it was our 9th Wedding Anniversary today we took Orson out too lunch while Callum was at school. While out and about we popped into The County Mag and met up with Steve the editor. We discussed all things Yak and have agreed that he will come out and do a piece once the estate is up and running. In the meantime Steven has bought half a page of advertising for a year in the magazine for his photographic work. He is also putting together an exhibition so watch this space …..

The Custom Header Bar

April 27, 2008 · No Comments

For those that have been following my quest to find a photograph for the header bar success is mine. To the winner the spoils!!!

I managed to do the whole thing using my little Canon IXUS 430 and i photo. What is so fantastic about word press is that they do all the cropping for you. You just up load the image and press crop. The crops are set sizes depending on which design of blog you have.

There I was believing I needed extra equipment when once again MAC have not let me down.

The picture is now in the header and shows one of our fields which lay to the back of the property. The trees that run across show the beginning of the EP Wet lands and running alongside the wet lands is a track that you cannot see that takes you into some wooded copse area and more fields.
